Who is the Choice Rewards World Mastercard® best for?

If you have a large amount of high interest credit card debt, you may want to consider transferring it to a credit card that offers an intro APR on balance transfers for a year or longer, like the Choice Rewards World Mastercard®.

The Choice Rewards World Mastercard® has an intro APR of 0.00% introductory APR for the first twelve billing cycles on balances transferred during the first 90 days after account opening.. After that, an APR of 13% to 18.00% applies. The card also offers a rewards program, and comes with a $0 annual fee and $0 balance transfer fee.

We highlight the pros and cons of the Choice Rewards World Mastercard® and show how it compares to similar balance transfer credit cards to help determine if it’s the right fit for you.

What we like about the Choice Rewards World Mastercard®

  • Intro APR on balance transfers

The Choice Rewards World Mastercard® offers an introductory APR of 0.00% introductory APR for the first twelve billing cycles on balances transferred during the first 90 days after account opening.. After that, an APR of 13% to 18.00% applies to any unpaid portion of the transferred balance.

  • Low ongoing APR

If you aren’t able to pay off your transferred balance in full within the promotional period, know that you won’t be hit with high interest charges with the Choice Rewards World Mastercard®, since the card offers a low ongoing APR of 13% to 18.00%.

  • Long balance transfer window

The Choice Rewards World Mastercard® comes with a balance transfer window — which is the amount of time you have to transfer your balance and take advantage of the promotional intro APR — of 90 days.

Typically, issuers require cardholders to make the transfer within the first 60 days of account opening.

  • Rewards on every purchase

Choice Rewards World Mastercard® cardholders earn 2 points per $1 spent on groceries, gas, electronics, medical, household goods and telecommunications, and 1 point per $1 spent on everything else. Additionally, earn 20,000 bonus points for spending at least $3,000 in first 60 days..

Rewards points can be redeemed for merchandise, gift cards, travel, cash or events and experiences.

But keep in mind, when you transfer a balance, it’s best to focus on paying off the transferred amount in full before earning rewards — which could ultimately lead to more debt.

  • Limited fees

While the majority of balance transfer credit cards charge balance transfer fees ranging from 3% to 5% of the amount of each transfer, the Choice Rewards World Mastercard® is one of the few cards that charges a $0 balance transfer fee.

The card also comes with a $0 annual fee and a $0 foreign transaction fee.

What to look out for with the Choice Rewards World Mastercard®

  • No intro APR on purchases

Because the Choice Rewards World Mastercard® does not offer an intro APR on purchases, you will be subject to interest charges at an APR of 13% to 18.00% if you carry a balance on your card from month to month.

That said, the APR is very reasonable — especially if you qualify for the lowest rate.

  • Credit union membership required

To apply for the Choice Rewards World Mastercard®, you must first become a member of First Tech FCU.

There are a numbers of ways to be eligible for membership, including having a family member or household member who is already a First Tech member, working for (or having a family member who works for an eligible partner company or for the State of Oregon, working or living in Lane County, Oregon, or belonging to the Computer History Museum or Financial Fitness Association.
